Universal Beauty
TitleUniversal Beauty
ArtistWall, Julie
BioI was born and raised here in Fort Wayne. I am in my third year at IPFW and am majoring in fine arts. I love art because it provides me with a way to express myself but still stay unique to the individual that I am. When I first came to IPFW I was a business major. I hadn't taken art at all throughout high school and didn't enroll in my first art course here until my sophomore year as a business student. After my first drawing class in the art building I was hooked. I had rediscovered my love for creating and seeing things in my own way. I quickly changed majors and can safely say that I am happy with what I'm doing now. Art helps me relate to my problems with others and gives me an emotional outlet when something exciting, sad, or angry occurs in my life. Art for me is a way of communicating and I feel proud that I can share my views and feelings with other people. - J. Wall
Inspiration"Universal Beauty" is a piece that portrays how the world revolves around a person's physical characteristics. All over the globe, especially here in America, we have a problem with rewarding someone's outer appearance over their substance as an individual. The woman in this print is shielding her face because she is ashamed that her beauty is the most important feature of who she is. She's afraid of what others will think if they look beyond her pretty face. Will they be disappointed in the person she has come to be? She has become just as dependent on her looks as the rest of the world. She is now a slave to herself and that is an ugly thing. - J. Wall
