Inspiration"Trash the Dress" is more than a term coined by photographer John Michael Cooper. It is an artistic movement in the field of wedding photography that has caught the attention of the media and is becoming a hot topic in the bridal environment. The term tends to evoke dismay and shock, but rest assured, not all dresses are destroyed. Contrary to how it may sound, "Trash the Dress" is NOT always about destroying the dress. Some may only get a bit wet and dirty and can normally be dry cleaned and preserved afterwards.
A bride in her wedding dress is one of the most beautiful visions imaginable! Most brides have been dreaming and fantasizing about their wedding day and the "perfect dress" since they were little girls. "Trash the Dress" is a perfect opportunity for brides who do not want to box up their dream dress to save for some future generation that will unlikely ever consider wearing it. It is an opportunity for them to preserve their dress with a unique photograph rather than storing it away in a dusty attic alone and forgotten. "Trash the Dress" goes against the grain of traditional wedding photography and is in complete contrast with the meticulous protection of the dress mentality. In departure from traditional wedding photography, it is also about a photographer who is willing to think outside the proverbial box and allowing the bride to express her beauty and creativity without worry in a more relaxed, less stressful environment with no time lines to follow, no rules, and complete artistic freedom. "Trash the Dress" sessions can be bold, adventurous, flirty, sexy, and romantic. They can take place on the beach, downtown, alleys, railroad tracks, barns, fields, or any variety of unusual settings. Some of the most glorious and memorable bridal photographs are not those traditional, stuffy, and posed images you find inside the church, but rather those candid and unexpected moments where the bride is running through the sand with her arms in the air with a feeling of freedom, happiness, and exhilaration or in the arms of her newfound love. "Trash the Dress" is about creating artistic images, having fun, doing something different and unexpected. More importantly, it is about creating beautiful and timeless photographic images that will last a lifetime!" - B. Mendez
